Aquanet bv implements projects in the field of water and sanitation in developing countries and in Central and East Europe.

 

The clients of Aquanet include e.g. the World Bank, the East European Bank, the European Union, Dutch government institutes and water utilities.

 

Aquanet provides various types of services including consultancies, twinning and the management of Water Funds

 

Aquanet's consultancy services focus on:

- Development of water utility management and operations;
- Establishment and development of Water Works Associations;
- Preparing local water utilities and basin directorates for accession to the European Union;
- Preparation of management-, lease- and concession contracts and the monitoring of private operator performance.

 

Aquanet initiates and manages the implementation of twinning programs between Dutch water utilities and their counterparts abroad. These programs focus on various subjects including e.g. improving the efficiency of plant operations, modelling of the distribution network and the development of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). These projects are implemented by staffs from the Dutch and counterpart water utilities.

 

Aquanet initiates, develops and manages Water Funds. These Funds, which are owned by a number of Dutch water utilities, finance and implement investments in water infrastructure in developing- and in EU accession countries, incorporate joint venture companies with local water utilities to operate infrastructure and re-invest the revenues in other projects (revolving fund). Water Fund Indonesia (WFI) implements house connections (about 60.000 since its start in 2001) and rehabilitates and operates water treatment plants in Indonesia. Water Fund Bulgaria (WFB) focuses on the replacement of defunct distribution mains and water meters in Bulgaria.
